How To Tell If Your SEO Campaign Is Making A Difference

Whether you are running your SEO campaign yourself, or you have an agency handling it, there is still a lot of time and money invested into the content. Therefore, it can be daunting not knowing whether it is actually making a difference or not. Here at Absolute Digital Media, we are going to take a closer look at how you can tell if your SEO campaign is actually working and making a difference.

What Must I Consider?

  • Have Reasonable Goals

When you are running your SEO campaign, you need to ensure that you have a reasonable goal as to where you want your site to actually take you. You need to have a think about realistic expectations, such as the ranking position, the results you actually want to see, and even the amount of traffic you would like to achieve.

  • Google’s Updates

It is important to take any of Google’s updates into consideration. These regular updates can effectively determine your success. Take the latest E-A-T Metric update, for example. It focuses on expertise, authority and trustworthiness, and considers where a company’s content should be ranked in its search engine. Your content needs to rank high in the three aspects, in order for it to be at the top of SERP’s.

The Medic Algorithm Update looked at content and how important it is to write it with the user in mind, not Google. What’s more, it also highlighted that it must be of high quality and be written with expertise, which overlaps with the E-A-T update a little.

How Can I Tell If It Is Making A Difference?

  • Keyword Ranking

If you want to keep an eye on your current and previous rankings for long-tail and short-tail keywords, you can use tools such as SEMRush or Agency Analytics. This will be an indication as to how your SEO campaign is doing.

  • Inbound Links

By using a link profile motoring tool, such as Moz’s Open Site Explorer, you can watch for new links and evaluate your current link profile.

  • Traffic

Google Analytics can help you to measure organic traffic and referral traffic to your site. Organic traffic is important, as it refers to how many people have clicked on your site and visited it through a search engine. By having a lot of organic traffic means that your SEO campaign is making a difference, as it shows how much visibility and traction your site is getting.

Referral is still a good indication as to how your off-site content is getting on, if you are building external links.

Hopefully we have given you a better insight into knowing whether or not your SEO campaign is making a difference. Ensure that you know what you want to achieve, and you use all the available online tools to monitor the progress of your campaign.
